DR. F. DAVID PETERKIN Peacefully, on June 15, 2005 , at Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg, Frank David Peterkin, M.D. David Peterkin was born in Regina in 1920 and grew up in Winnipeg. He attended St. Paul's High School and the University of Manitoba where he obtained a Bachelor of Science. He then joined the RCAF in 1942 and served overseas in an RAF squadron as a navigator. He returned to Winnipeg, and received his medical degree in 1952. He married Audrey O'Kelly, a writer and fellow parishioner at St. Ignatius in September of 1950. They lovingly raised three children - Bernard, Allan and Corinne. David was a well-loved family doctor who worked in the U.S. and then for many years on Corydon Avenue, until he retired in 1989. He was also a renaissance man who read extensively, and loved cooking, kite flying, fishing, gardening and woodworking. He was admired by friends and family for his prolific knowledge of classical music. Music truly was a lifelong form of meditation and reflection and a source of much joy. David lost his son Bernard, a musician in 1975 and his beloved Audrey in 1995. He is survived by his son Allan (Robert Tomas), a doctor in Toronto, and his daughter Corinne (Kara Simcoe), an IT specialist in Winnipeg. His siblings Sister Mildred Peterkin RSCJ, Dr. Edith Peterkin, Father Allan Peterkin SJ and John Peterkin Phd. (Esme) remember their brother with love and gratitude. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, his niece, Bridget McCormick, and sister-in-law Marcia Levine O'Kelly (Bernard) and many friends and former patients. It was David's wish that his body be left to the University of Manitoba Medical School. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, June 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Ignaious Church, corner of Corydon and Stafford. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Deer Lodge who treated David with great kindness and respect. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Deer Lodge Foundation at 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3.
