RUTH A. BENELL (nee ROBERTSON) Born December 16, 1920 in Regina, Saskatchewan Peacefully, on June 13, 2005 at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, Ruth passed away. She was 84 years old. Ruth leaves to mourn her loving husband, Robert; six children - Ronald, Jane (Ed Griffith), John (Karen), Patricia (Jean Michel Krief), David, Kathy (Mark Hughes) and 11 grandchildren - Mamie, Ben, Angella and Jamie Griffith; Joshua, Christopher and Sarah Benell; Elliott Benell; Jordan, Kristen and Danica Hughes. Ruth was a top student, a graduate of Luther College in Regina, and Normal School teacher's college in Moose Jaw. She taught school in country schoolhouses in Saskatchewan during the Depression. In The Second World War, she worked in a munitions factory in Ajax, ON and in 1944 married Robert, who was in the Air Force. They lived in Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Saskatoon, Calgary, Trenton, and Prince Albert and eventually moved to Fort Garry in Winnipeg in 1951 where they raised their family. This year, they celebrated together their 61st wedding anniversary. Ruth pursued many interests including gardening, music, bridge, golf and Tai Chi. She was a long-standing member of the Wildwood Club, the Fort Garry Horticultural Society and Fort Garry United Church. She will be remembered by her many friends and acquaintances for her great kindness, her positive outlook on life, and her fun-loving nature. She always put others' needs first, was a great inspiration to her family and a loving and caring wife. To her husband, Robert, her awesome personality will remain his fondest memory. Our family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of the Victoria General Hospital and the Riverview Health Centre for their extraordinary kindness. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 20 at Church of the Rock, 1397 Buffalo Place (off McGillivray Boulevard) in Fort Garry. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth's memory to a charity of your choice. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
