PATRICK DENNIS DONAHUE August 13, 1950 - June 13, 2005 Just two months shy of his 55th birthday, Pat's courageous three year battle with cancer ended. On Monday, June 13, 2005, Patrick passed away peacefully at St. Boniface General Hospital surrounded by his brothers and sisters. He leaves to mourn, his father Joseph; siblings, Tom (Randi-Lee), Kathy Glenwright (Tom), Mary Ford Donahue, Diane Carlson (Jim), Joey and Margaret; as well as nephews and nieces, Matthew, Brett, Thom, Mike, Jennifer, Kendal, Kennedy, Adam, Katherine, Bryce, McKenzie and Dane. Patrick was predeceased by his mother Lucille Donahue. Pat was born in Brandon, MB. He spent many years working in Northern Manitoba with Crawley and McCracken and Manitoba Hydro and had been employed by Loomis Courier for the five years prior to the onset of his illness. Pat enjoyed playing golf, watching professional sports, dallying with the Free Press crossword puzzles and listening to blues music. He was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed books related to the history of the First and Second World Wars. Pat loved to debate current issues and was known to enjoy sharing a pint or two with friends. He was a dedicated canvasser for the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation and continued to participate in their annual fundraising event throughout his illness. Pat will be remembered for his deep love of his family. He shared a home with his friend and brother Joey for the past ten years. Pat was a constant companion to his father Joe after Lucille passed away. He made numerous visits to his sister Margaret in Portage la Prairie. Pat made regular appearances at his nephews' and nieces' concerts and plays, thoroughly enjoyed his forays out to Diane and Jim's home in Fernie, BC to ski, took in the annual air show with Mary, visited Kathy's home in the country and tore up the golf courses with Tom. He will always be remembered for his optimism and fierce determination to live his life to the fullest throughout his illness. Despite increasing pain, Paddy accompanied Tom on a four day camping / golf trip to Hecla Island shortly before his death and spent the Friday afternoon before his passing cutting Joey's lawn. Pat was an inspiration to everyone who knew him and a true hero in the hearts of his family. In accordance with Pat's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Our family will celebrate his life with a private gathering. On behalf of Patrick, our family expresses our sincerest gratitude to all of the staff in the Oncology, Radiation and Emergency Departments and ICU at St. Boniface General Hospital for the wonderful care and support they provided Patrick. If friends wish, donations in Pat's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or a charity of one's choice.
