ELSIE MAY DEEKS Peacefully on Friday, June 17, 2005 Elsie May Deeks passed away at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 95 years. Elsie was born May 7, 1910 to loving and devoted parents on Ashburn Street in the West End- an area in which she resided her entire life. She attended Isaac Brock and Daniel McIntyre schools. Elsie was a life long member of the former St. Patricks, St Judes Anglican Church. Following high school she began employment with Eatons, taking leave to serve overseas with the St. John Ambulance Brigade during the Second World War. Elsie was actively involved with the Federal Superannuates, English Speaking Union, a life member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and a long time supporter of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and Manitoba Theatre Centre. Elsie enjoyed many happy times with family and friends as a cottager at Gimli for 75 years. Elsie loved her life, living independently in her own home until 2004. Her warmth and gift of friendship were given freely. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Mary Deeks; her sister and best friend Beatrice and by brother Walter in infancy. Surviving are cousins in Eastern Canada. Sincere thanks to Joyce Harmacy and her staff on Tower 6 Deer Lodge Centre, for their care and compassion to Elsie over the past few months.
