WILLIAM (BILL) YAKEMOW It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of William Yakemow on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at the age of 74 years. He is survived by his loving wife Anne; children, Alexandra (Darryl) Pokrant, Diana (John) Dubeski; and grandchildren, Olivia, John and Emma, Cora (Ross) Campbell and grand-children, Anne and Katie, Byron (Pam) Yakemow and grandchildren, Gabriella and Lucas; sister Nelle Bereza; niece Carol (Ivor) Asham and their children, Evan and Cara; in-laws, Helen Yakimiw, Nettie Nelnyk, Harry (Ada) Melnyk and John (Sonia) Melnyk and extended family. He was predeceased by parents, Peter and Anastasia; brother Alex; sister Kay; and brothers-in-law, John Bereza and Dan Melnyk. Dad was born in Portage La Prairie in 1931 and grew up on the family farm. When he was a young man, he moved to Winnipeg where he met and married Anne Melnyk in the winter of 1959. Dad was employed with the CNR where he worked as a carman for 35 years. One of his proudest accomplishments was preparing the Royal Train for the Queen's Canadian visit. Dad was a dedicated husband, father and Gigi. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was supportive of all the endeavours of his children and grandchildren, whether it be academic, music or sports. Bill's passions were photography and Toyotas and his lawn was admired by all. He was also a devoted member and helper of St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Funeral services will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home on Saturday, June 25 at 10:00 a.m. Viewing will be one half hour prior. The Very Rev. Fr. John Melnyk will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
