BROOKING (ELECTRICAL ENGINEER) 1910 - 2005 With sadness, we announce the passing of Donald on June 17, 2005 at the Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 95. Donald was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Helen; and his daughter Susan. Donald will be remembered by his son Neil of Vancouver, and one grandson Sean of Winnipeg. Donald will also be missed by his nephew Bob Atkinson; and nieces, Gail Matthews and Betty Ann Boulton. Donald grew up in Winnipeg, and attended the University of Manitoba where he graduated with his Electrical Engineering degree. After serving as Lieutenant in the Canadian Navy he joined the English Electric Co. in St. Catharines and later as manager in the companies Winnipeg and Montreal offices. In 1955 he joined Shawinigan Engineering Co. Ltd. in Montreal as senior design engineer on design procurement and construction specifications for Canada - India Research Reactor project in Bombay, India. In 1960 Don was appointed Project Manager for the design and construction management of AECL's Whiteshell Nuclear Research Establishment in Pinawa. In 1964 appointed Project manager of Shawmont, Newfoundland Ltd. In 1969 he was appointed Vice President and General Manager of Teshmont Consultants and ended his career there as President and Chairman of the board actively participating in the organization and incorporation of the Manitoba HVDC Research Centre as sponsored by Teshmont, Federal Pioneer, University of Manitoba and Manitoba Hydro. Don retired in 1983. Donald and Helen were active bridge players and he loved to tinker around the house as Mr. Fixit. Donald was a kind and gentle man and was liked by everyone. A special thanks goes out to the 3rd floor staff at Seven Oaks, and the staff at Poseidon Care Centre where he spent his last months. The support of his friends and Teshmont colleagues was also greatly appreciated. Cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
