MAY GLADYS MANBY June 29, 1913 - June 12, 2005 Peacefully May passed away at the Middlechurch Home in her 91st year. May was predeceased by her beloved husband Philip in March of 1992; her parents, Walter and Eliza Gatward and seven of her siblings. She will be lovingly remembered by her brother Albert (Joyce) Gatward and his family who reside in Florida; her neighbours, Ursula Kraemer and family, Beverley Ward and family and her many other neighbours and friends. May was born in West Kildonan and grew up in a happy home, the youngest of eight children. She worked for many years at The Bay, in the restaurant department, retiring in 1973. She married Philip in June 1968 and they spent many happy years in their home on St. Anthony in their neighbourhood of West Kildonan. They enjoyed their beautiful yard with the fruit trees and flowers. Over the years, May had many pets but the ones who held a special place in her heart were her Scottish Terriers Skye and Robbie . May enjoyed the company of the all neighbourhood children and always had treats for them. She was a generous, kind and friendly lady with a good sense of humour. A gregarious and hospitable person, she always valued her friendships and social occasions. She was always interested in her neighbourhood and delighted in her relationships in the community. May and Philip were proud members of the West Kildonan Legion. May was always very independent but due to declining health, she moved to the Middlechurch Home in the spring of 2001, where she endeared herself to staff and residents. The friends and family of May wish to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Middlechurch for their many kindness and care extended to May during her residence there. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of May's Life will be held on Monday, June 27 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Middlechurch Home, 280 Balderstone Rd., West St. Paul, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in May's memory to Middlechurch Home, 280 Balderstone Rd., West St. Paul, MB R4A 4A6 or to the Royal Canadian Legion, West Kildonan Branch, 1748 Main St., Winnipeg, MB R2V 1Z5.
