KENNETH L. MACCHARLES After a long and valiant battle with Multiple Myeloma, we sadly announce the death of Ken MacCharles on Thursday, June 23, 2005, at the age of 77 years. His wife Cynthia, whose love, care, and support he counted on for more than 45 years, will dearly miss him. Ken was a loving father to Keith and Quentin (Liz) and devoted grandfather to Riley, Lindsay, and Julia. He is also survived by his sister Frances Jukes and family of Calgary; and sister-in-law Jane Hottinger (Bill) and family of North Carolina. Ken was born and raised in Winnipeg, and lead an active life involved in family, sports and business. He graduated from McGill University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1949. After several years working with Imperial Oil he moved back to Winnipeg and on to a number of other business ventures and he then married Cynthia and started a family. Ken completed his career by selling Airmaster Sales Ltd., a Winnipeg manufacturing business he operated for 25 years, to his two sons. His true passion was golf and he spent most of his leisure time at St. Charles Country Club where he spent years golfing, volunteering on the board and eventually as club captain. Ken was president of the Manitoba Golf Association and a member of the Manitoba Senior Provincial Team. He was lucky enough to get 4 hole-in-one's and was very proud of shooting his age twice on the golf course two years after being diagnosed with cancer. In the winter Ken enjoyed family ski trips, golf holidays, and playing squash with his buddies at the Winnipeg Winter Club and the Winnipeg Squash Club. Ken's funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m. in Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Dr., with Ken's nephew Bishop Christopher Jukes of Calgary officiating. Special thanks to Grace Hospital, CancerCare, Manitoba Home Care, and Riverview Health Centre for all their special care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ken's memory may be made to the Manitoba Junior Golf Scholarship Foundation, 200 Main St., Winnipeg, R3C 4M2, or a charity of one's choice. People are like stained glass windows. Their true beauty is revealed Only if there is light within. Thank-you Ken for letting Your light shine through for us.
