Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER THOMAS MCKENZIE JUNE 24, 2005 Al was born June 22, 1930 in Wolseley SK. He was the Son of Thomas Alexander and Amelia McKenzie. Al is survived by his wife Kathleen (Kaye); four children and spouses, Alana and Norm of Winnipeg, Donald and Donna of Gimli, Brian of Gimli and Scott and Tannis of Hillside Beach. Al had nine grandchildren (from oldest to youngest), Nadine, Kristin, Kayley, Heather, Emma, Joey, Chanelle, Thomas and Taylor and many nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by his parents, and his brother and sisters, Donald, Margaret and Beatrice. Al started his work career with the Toronto Dominion Bank in 1949 in Wolseley. Transfers took him to Swan River, MB in 1951 where he met Kathleen Combs of Deloraine, MB who was also starting her career as a graduate RN from the General Hospital (HSC). They married in Deloraine on June 20, 1953. Al and Kaye were transferred several times in his early career and they met many friends and made lasting friendships in Fort William (Thunder Bay), Kenora, Moose Jaw, Regina, and then finally moved to Winnipeg in 1971 and settled in St. James. Al was a senior accountant with the federal government (Department of Western Diversification) when he retired in 1990. Al was active in his retirement years. He curled with the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club, bowled with the Polo Park Club 55+ League and the Village Inn Seniors Mixed league. Al golfed at both the Charleswood Golf Club and most recently at the South Interlake Golf and Country Club. He was often a successful competitor in golf tournaments around the province and was proud of his trophies and accomplishments. Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, June 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd. for a memorial service to remember Al McKenzie. The immediate family will attend a graveside service in Gimli at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Al has requested that charitable donations be sent to Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3R 0G2.
