BARRIE SCHICK It is with great sadness we announce the death of our beloved Barrie Schick, husband, father, popa, brother and friend, after a courageous battle with cancer on June 22, 2005. He was born in Winnipeg, MB on April 14, 1938 to the late Karl and Dora Schick. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife Edna (nee King), sons Jeffrey Schick and wife Laurie (Peoria, Arizona); Gregory Schick and wife Heather (Houston, Texas) and daughter Michelle Newland and husband Mark (Katy, Texas); his cherished grandchildren, Kelley, Valarie and Elizabeth Schick, Clayton and Zack Newland, and Greg Rice; his brother Glenn and wife, Joanne, and their children Ken, James and Kim, as well as sisters-in-law Margaret Sheridan, Willa King, Marie Forest, Linda King and brothers-in-law Jim and Bill King, Marvin Benson, Dwayne Forest and many other relatives and a host of wonderful friends and neighbours. Barrie loved the sport of curling and was a member of the Granite Curling Club in Seattle, Washington, where he travelled often to compete and be with wonderful friends. He also competed in the Manitoba Bonspiel every year with his brother and boyhood friends. He worked for many years for Team Relocations out of London, England here in Houston, Texas. He loved and respected his staff and business partners, Bill Pauly, his stalwart and trusted friend. His relationship with them was always very meaningful. Mostly, Barrie loved to be with his beloved family and cherished every moment of their trips to the beach, holidays, phone calls and fishing. Our thanks to Dr. Heyne at Medical Clinic of Houston and his loving and supportive staff. As per his wishes, Barrie's remains will be cremated and will remain with his family until they can be scattered near his beach house, a place he dearly loved. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations to Texas Cancer Institute at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, Office of Health Care Philanthropy, 3100 Main Street, Suite 800, MC3-206, Houston, Texas 77002, or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, at Elridge, Texas on July 1, 2005, Canada Day, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel at Memorial Oaks.

  • Dear Edna & families: My sincerest condolences on Barrie's passing. Although I didn't know him well, I am happy that I saw the two of you at the school reunion several years ago. George also passes on his thoughts. Please keep in touch and I will try and phone you Edna after I return from Manitoba. Cherish the memories that you hold dear to you.
