Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH ADAM CAIRNS (1919 - 2005) With sadness we announce the passing of our oldest brother, Kenneth Adam Cairns on June 19, 2005. Ken was born in Dugald, MB to Tom and Alma Cairns on July 1, 1919. He will be sadly missed by his daughter Elaine Joiner; granddaughter Kimberley (Ricardo) Mendosa; grandson Paul Joiner; great-grandchildren, Nickolas, Michael, Tatiana and Jontel; three brothers, Tom, Jerry and Jim and by nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his loving wife Bernice (nee Bjorkman); daughter Deborah; son-in-law James; brother Ray and sister Elizabeth. As a very young lad, Ken worked as a farm hand for various farmers, then at the cordite plant between Transcona and Dugald. He joined the army in 1941 and served in the 12th Manitoba Dragoons as a Dispatch Rider and later as a Staghound Driver in England and in Holland. After the war, he worked for the City of Winnipeg at McPhillips Street water pumping station until 1956, when he moved to Hawthorne, California (a suburb of Los Angeles). There he worked for Sears in Santa Monica as a major appliance service and repair man. On the job he met many Hollywood celebrities. When he retired he moved to Tehachapi, then Pismo Beach and to San Luis Obispo. He and Bernice bought a motor home and travelled several times to Winnipeg and to other parts of Canada and the U.S.A., including Alaska and they spent several winters in Blythe, California. Cremation took place and a celebration of Ken's life was held in The Village at the Oaks in San Luis Obispo on Saturday, June 25 with Rev. Ken Lockwood officiating. Interment was held Monday, June 27 at Tehachapi, California.
