NELLIE ADELENE CLAYTON (nee MITCHELL) Nellie, the only child of Herbert and Nellie (nee Robertson) Mitchell, died on Monday, June 27, 2005 at Poseidon Care Centre in Winnipeg, MB. Nellie was predeceased by her husband John (Jack) Stuart Clayton in 1989. She is survived by her daughter Enid (Con) Butler; sons, Alan, Laurie (Cadi) of Ottawa; grandchildren, Susan (Gordon) Wilton and Jennifer (Rob) Campbell of Winnipeg, Joanne Clayton of Toronto, Ian Clayton of Vancouver and Anna, Stephanie and Brittany Clayton of Ottawa; and great-grandchildren, Amber and Annabelle Wilton, and Aidan and Cian Campbell. Nellie was born on October 11, 1913 in North Battleford, SK and grew up on a farm in the area. In the 1920s she moved with her parents to Saskatoon, where she met and married her husband Jack in 1937. Jack and Nellie moved to Ottawa in 1967 where they resided until retiring to Winnipeg in 1972. Although Nellie and Jack travelled extensively to many parts of the world, they most enjoyed their cottage at Pike Lake, near Saskatoon. Nellie's main interest was her music. She was a soprano soloist, sang in choirs and choral groups in Saskatoon and Ottawa, and lead choirs in Saskatoon and Winnipeg. In Winnipeg, Nellie volunteered for Meals on Wheels and at the Tache Nursing Home. Very special thanks to the staff of the Poseidon Care Centre where she lived for the past five years and to her special care companion Evangeline. Nellie was a member of Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Dr., where a memorial service will be held on Monday, July 11, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the C.N.I.B., 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 3M3, or to a charity of one's choice.
