BARRY MICHAEL ALLUM With extreme sadness we announce that Barry Allum, aged 53 years, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2005, at Health Sciences Centre with family at his side, due to complications caused by Quadriplegia. Remaining to cherish Barry's memory is his wife Dr. Joan Welch; his son Sean (Karolyn); daughter Michelle (Glenn); grandchildren, Jasmine, Holley and Abigail; as well as his stepdaughters, Diana and Lauren Welch. He will be greatly missed by his father Bernard; brothers, Brad (Judy), Kerry (Pat), Jeff (Jacqueline) and many nieces and nephews. Barry was predeceased by his mother, Dena Allum, in March 2002. Barry was born in Winnipeg and graduated from Tech Voc High School in 1971. His first job was at the People's Co-operative Dairy where he started as a teenager working part and then full time. Changing direction, Barry began working for Alpine Drywall where he gained the necessary skills to eventually start his own company, Expert Drywall Ltd. and it wasn't long before he expanded his business to include Tropical Insulation Ltd. Being hardworking and ambitious he managed to accomplish all this while raising a young family. Barry was a caring and generous soul whose family and friends were very important to him. He took pleasure in entertaining and cooking and hosted many family dinners, which he lovingly prepared himself. Barry also enjoyed travelling and visited Florida and Mexico several times. His interest in history in general and the American West gave way to numerous trips to South Dakota's Black Hills, which was one of his favourite getaways. Barry also enjoyed music and was heavily influenced by the British invasion. Remember his Beatles boots? Barry also liked to golf and spend time at the cottage with family, friends and beloved dogs. In recent years, Barry faced many medical challenges. He was still recovering from a 2001 organ transplant when a motor vehicle accident left him paralysed in October 2003. He spent the next year and one half courageously fighting the many obstacles he faced with being quadriplegic and although he showed strength and determination it just became too much. Barry you fought the good fight. The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, unit assistants and homecare workers for all the help and care you gave Barry. A special thank you to Estelita from Bayshore who befriended and gave Barry exceptional care. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. May you rest in peace. You will be always loved, deeply missed and never forgotten. He's Free by Judy Gagnon I knew you had to go away it was your time you see but I didn't take the time to face that you were leaving me. You weren't afraid of dying for you knew what lay in store in the blinking of an eye or the closing of a door. You shared with us a journey that only you could see and helped us understand God's way as it was meant to be. Life had so restricted you your spirit is now free to go explore the universe for all eternity. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
