Date of Passing: Jun 26, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN STARK SIMMONS (nee DUNN) Peacefully, Jean Simmons passed away at the age of 89, at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2005 at the Health Sciences Centre. Jean was born in Neepawa, MB, on February 9, 1916, one of 13 children in the Dunn family. She lived an exemplary life of kindness. Everyone she met, no matter how briefly, was touched by her generosity of spirit and her quick wit. She saw the best in people, took a genuine interest in their triumphs and taught us, by example, how to be a good person. She was predeceased by her loving husband Al, who died May 6, 1969, and is survived by: daughter Liz (John) Pats of Winnipeg; son Albert (Barbara) Simmons of Anola; and son Robert (Julia) Simmons of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; grandsons, William (Elizabeth) Pats and Tanna, Andy Pats, Craig (Lisa) Pats, Karl Simmons, Will Simmons, Brad Simmons and Colin Simmons; sisters, Lillian Vesey of Winnipeg and Betty (Lloyd) Hunt of Toronto as well as her numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff and residents of Lions Place, as well as the skilled and compassionate personnel at both the St. Boniface Hospital and the Health Sciences Centre. We very much appreciated the extraordinary understanding and empathy of Dr. Kim Wiebe. As a last act of generosity Jean has donated her body to Science. Please join us to celebrate her life at Lions Place, 2nd Floor Auditorium, 610 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, at 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 4. In lieu of flowers be nice to someone today. It is said that you can't take anything with you - she took our hearts, but she left us a legacy of love.
