GEORGE LOUIS FRANK DEGRYSE Peacefully, after a brief illness, George Louis Frank Degryse of Portage la Prairie, beloved husband of the late Shirley DeGryse, passed away on July 1, 2005, at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 81 years. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery, Portage la Prairie. Family and friends are invited to meet at the Omega Funeral Home, 83 Royal Road S., Portage, at 1:30 p.m. to proceed to the cemetery. George was born on August 29, 1923, son of Florent and Annie Degryse at Winnipeg where he was raised and received his education. In 1942 he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a bomb-aimer with the R.A.F., completing his tour of operations over Europe with the 578, 51, and 77 squadrons. After the Second World War he returned to Winnipeg and in 1950 he married Shirley Malin. They resided in Winnipeg until 1953 when George re-enlisted with the Canadian Air Force. He then served in Canada, Europe, and the United States. In 1973 he retired from the forces in C.F.B. Portage la Prairie. He made his home in Portage la Prairie and in 1975 moved to the Gainsborough district where he farmed as a hobby. George was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #65 Portage, the Army, Navy and Air force Veterans of Canada Unit 13, and was a lifetime member of the British Air Commonwealth Training Museum. George enjoyed the great outdoors. His hobbies and interests were raising chickens and ducks and he also enjoyed fishing. Predeceased by his parents, wife Shirley, one sister Irene Degryse, he leaves to mourn his passing one brother Ken, and sister-in-law Rose of Winnipeg and several nieces and nephews.
