VALERIE JEAN WOOD (MCKINNON) Peacefully on July 2, 2005 Valerie passed away at St. Boniface General Hospital with family and friends by her side. Grandma's greatest love was her grandbabies. Time with them was what she cherished the most. She will be deeply missed by all seven of them, Nykole, Corissa, Kevin, Taylor, Kaitlyn, Kyra and Mateus. Don't ever forget, grandma loves you. Val was predeceased by her father Douglas McKinnon and big brother William. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband Richard and two children, Tina (Joe) and Tyrone; her stepchildren, Ryan, Rick (Penny), Kevin and Laura; her mother Alma McKinnon and her brother and sister, Gus and Audrey (Ken); her brother-in-law Gord (Gail); her best friend Gail Leblanc, friend Betty, and many nieces and nephews. Val was born in Dauphin, MB, on August 22, 1951. She resided in Dauphin until the age of 18 at which time she left to pursue a 31 year nursing career as a LPN. During her 21 years of working at Seven Oaks hospital, she made many special friends and touched the hearts of so many others. Val was very proud of her roots and cherished her visits back home to Dauphin for quality time with family and friends. All who truly knew her were blessed by her caring compassion and extremely generous ways. Her greatest goal as a mother, raising Tina and Tyrone, was to pass on her strong belief in good morals and great values. Although being diagnosed with a terminal illness in 2002, she was still determined not to let the negative in this world get in her way of living her life. Val had many accomplishments in her life, but her greatest pride was the accomplishments of those she loved. Her zest and love for life will live forever through those she cherished. A celebration of Valerie's life will be held on Thursday, July 7 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. 12 Years have passed and as I continue to grow and find myself as a person, there is one thing I will never forgot from you. The value of hard work, You took me in and treated me as one of your own. My chip that was on my shoulder as an adolescent hampered my ability to truly see what it was that you were trying to instill in me. I hope you can see down on me as everything I have accomplished is a testament of your teaching and lessons you provided me all those young molding years in my life. I've become something I fought and said i'd never do. Today you can see My amazing wife Catherine and son Easton who even though they have never met you in person know how special of a person you were to me. I miss you so much and wish just one time you will show up and see everyone again. Please look down on us and continue to be our families angel who always protects us. Love always! Val and I were distant cousins. I am truly sorry that we did not keep in touch and that I was not made aware of your passing until too late to attend your memorial. I remember fondly the year I came to Dauphin and stayed with you and your family. We had such a great time and kept in touch with each other for awhile. I moved to Winnipeg in 1980 and so sadly we did not keep in touch. Your passing truly affects me. - Posted by: Laurie Timchuk (Family) on: Jul 12, 2005

Val and I were friends throughout our teen days and throughout high school. I joined the Canadian Forces in 1971 and left Dauphin and unfortunately, lost contact with Val. Val and I were bridesmaids for Barb Hollyoake (McKillop). To hear of Val's passing brings me great sorrow and makes me realize that time is a passage that we travel far too quickly. Although too late, I truly regret that I have lost my good high school chum and my sincere condolences go out to her entire family.
