Born: Apr 16, 1972
Date of Passing: Jun 28, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD MATTHEW FROST After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of Richard Matthew Frost at Princess Margaret Hospital on June 28, 2005 at the age of 33. Matthew was the beloved husband of Lorena (Swanson); cherished son of Richard and Nancy; dear brother of Jonathan and Carolyn (Jeff). He will also be lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law, Heather Swanson and his brother-in-law, Trevor Swanson. Matthew will be missed by his grandfather and wife, Walter and Helen Allum and his grandmother, Agnes Frost. Matthew was loved by his many aunts, uncles and cousins, particularly, Sarah Jean, Hilary and Donovan Allum. Matthew was predeceased by his grandmother, Jean Allum and his grandfather, Lorne Frost. Matthew was born in Hamilton on April 16, 1972, but spent most of his youthful years in Brampton. In 1989 he moved with his family to Winnipeg, where he attended Kelvin High School, followed by graduation from the University of Manitoba in 1994 (Political Studies) and 1998 (Recreation Studies). He was a brother of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and said that he couldn't imagine anyone having a better university life. Matthew loved sports in any form. Throughout his life, he played hockey, baseball, golf, football and participated in competitive swimming. Always a passionate sports fan, he spent his professional life doing what he loved best - working first for the Manitoba Moose where Matt was named Public Relations Director of the Year (Western Conference) for the 1998-99 and 2000-01 seasons in the IHL. In the fall of 2001, Matt secured his dream job with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the media relations department. Matthew was full of dreams and aspirations with plans to ultimately build a career in sports journalism. Shortly after being diagnosed, he received the news that he was accepted into the Masters of Journalism program at the University of Western Ontario. Matt also took great pride in his wife Lorena and was able to celebrate the completion of her requirements for the CMA designation a few days before he died. In the words of his brother, Matt's life was filled with love, success and the companionship of great friends. It's not the story that's sad, just the ending. We thank our family, many friends, and Matt's colleagues for their support over the past five months. We want to also acknowledge the effort by the medical professionals at PMH. A funeral service was held in Dundas, ON on Thursday, June 30. A joyous celebration of Matthew's life will take place on Friday, July 8 at 1:30 p.m. at Centre Ice at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Matthew Frost Sports Fund at The Winnipeg Foundation, 1350 One Lombard Place, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0X3. To the world he was one; to us he was the world.

To Mr. and Mrs. Frost, John, Carolyn, and to Lorena, Growing up with Matt, I was able to share so much of his love for hockey, music, and life. We went to our first concert together, and I'll never forget the Maple Leaf playoff game against St. Louis. When Matt returned to Toronto, I was thrilled to see not only my friend again, but to see he had truly pursued his dream and found a way to dawn the Blue and White. I am truly sorry for your loss, and wish to express my deepest condolences. Sincerely, Rob Glover - Posted by: Rob Glover (Friend) on: Jul 21, 2005
