WILLIAM BILL (SHORTY) FEWCHUK June 7, 1918 - July 4, 2005 It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. William married Mildred on November 4, 1939 and celebrated 62 years of marriage when the love of his life succumbed to cancer on June 9, 2002. Dad was predeceased by infant daughter Darlene; parents, Polly and Peter Fewchuk and brother John (Anne); parents-in-law, Esther and Collin Clarke; in-laws, John Drobott, Myrtle and Carl Anderson, Alfie, Ken and Lloyd Clarke and Edna Fewchuk. He is survived by son Ron (June); daughters, Pat Smolinski (Joe), Shirley Huculak (Lorne); grandchildren, Rodney Fewchuk (Nan), Kathy Scott (Bruce), Bill Smolinski (Desiree), Richard Smolinski (Linda), Shirleen Huculak, JR Huculak (Theresa); and great-grandchildren, Lee and Mathew Scott. He is survived by brothers, Mike and Nick (Martha); sister-in-law Dorothy Clarke and many nieces and nephews. The heart of Dad's life was his family and friends. Dad treasured the family barbecues, parties, get togethers and a good game of crib. Dad and Mom loved to travel in their motorhome and loved dancing, and going to fiddle and jigging festivals. Dad was a great step dancer. Although they made several trips together across Canada, the highlight was their motorhome trip with Rita and Peter to the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena as well as winter vacations in Texas. Dad retired from the Manitoba Rolling Mills in 1980. Being a talented and skilled carpenter, he was never short of projects between his and Milly's travel. He was a member of the Selkirk Canadian Legion, Over Sixty Club, Gordon Howard Seniors Centre and the Lockport Community Church. The family wishes to thank Rev. Kenneth Innes, Dr. R.R. Lindenschmidt and the nurses at the Selkirk General Hospital for their help during this period. Thanks as well to the Home Care staff for the care over the past three years with special thanks to Janet. Prayers will be said Thursday, July 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral Services will be held Friday morning July 8 at 10:00 a.m. in the Lockport Community Church, No. 44 Hwy. and Henderson Hwy. (204). Rev. Kenneth Innes will officiate. Interment will follow in the McKenzie Church yard Cemetery on Henderson Hwy. (204). Active pallbearers are William's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are his many cherished relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Selkirk District Community Foundation, 378 Manitoba St., Selkirk, MB R1A 1T8 or the Selkirk Hospital Palliative Care, 100 Easton Dr., Selkirk, MB.
