SISTER GERALDINE GUAY (SISTER MARIE LOUIS-PHILIPPE) Sister Geraldine Guay died peacefully on July 3, 2005 at the Missionary Oblate Sisters' infirmary at age 95, of which 73 years were lived in the religious life. She leaves to cherish her memory the members of her religious order, three sisters, Lorraine Dubord, Yvette Beauregard and Eveline Boutin; and her brother-in-law, Herve Boutin; many nieces and nephews and great-grandnephews and nieces as well as cousins and friends. Geraldine was predeceased by her parents; her four brothers, Joseph and his wife Marguerite, Gerard and his wife Helen, Lucien, Alphonse and his wife Lucille; her five sisters, Yvonne who died in infancy, Yvonne and her husband Sanford Mulvihill, Marguerite and her husband Daniel McCormick, Therese and Gertrude; as well as her brothers-in-law, Henri Beauregard and Eugene Dubord. Geraldine was born in Saint-Boniface on May 10, 1910. She was the oldest of a family of 13 children: four boys and nine girls. Her father, Louis-Philippe Guay, was from Saint-Vital, MB and had settled in Sainte-Anne, MB where he acted as Public Solicitor. Her mother, Alexandrine Dupuis, was from Lorette, MB and her time was totally absorbed with the care of her large family. Geraldine was only three years old when Fr. DeMeunter allowed her to make her First Holy Communion. She recalls the following: I was prepared by my mother... It seemed that I knew my prayers very well and that I had sufficient religious knowledge to know that by receiving communion I received God . What a promising future! Geraldine worked in 12 of our missionary fields. Her unfailing energy, enthusiasm and devotion have been an inspiration to many. Her impact upon the Pelican Rapids and Barrows communities was such that in 1989 she received the first Outstanding Contribution Award for her excellent participation and contribution in that school division. This is how she was considered: Teacher, Social Worker, Guidance Counsellor, Principal, Banker, Nurse, Druggist, Politician, Deputy Mayor, School Committee Chairperson, Secretary and Spiritual Leader . Sister Geraldine is all of these to a great many people. Besides all the above mentioned, as a companion, she was charming and interesting as she always had anecdotes to relate lived experiences with her people. Her faithful companion was her rosary which she carried day and night. So, in brief, some traits that reveal Sister Geraldine were: the strong woman of the Bible, the precious gem who has left her earthly abode after having shown us how the love of a neighbour fills a life and gives happiness. Prayers will be recited on Saturday, July 9 at 9:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Missionary Oblate Sisters, 601 Aulneau St. Funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the same address. Fr. Albert Bouffard, omi, will preside the celebration. Interment will take place in the cemetery on Archibald Street on Monday, July 11 at 10:00 a.m. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
