Born: Aug 02, 1922
Date of Passing: Jul 05, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIA FILOMENA AUGELLONE (nee PELUSO) Peacefully at Tuxedo Villa Residence, on July 5, 2005 Maria was called by the Lord, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Scanno, Aquila, Italy on August 2, 1922. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved and devoted husband of 59 years Primo; her daughter, Terenzia (Danilo) Calligaro, granddaughter Debbie (Daniel) Calligaro-Rae and great-grandson Matteo Rae, all of Vancouver; her son Nazareno, grandsons, Alessandro and Adriano Augellone and daughter-in-law Maria Pacella-Augellone, all of Winnipeg. Her sister Lucia Cetrone of Italy and brother Remo (Fernanda) Peluso of France; her in-laws, Iolanda Macario, Angela (Mario) Silla, Fernanda Augellone all of Winnipeg; Mafalda (Teodoro) Fusco of Boston, Elvira Peluso of Italy and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents, Antonio and Domenica, brother Romolo and sister Pasqua Nannarone. Maria came to Canada in 1955 with her daughter to reunite with her husband who immigrated months earlier to start a new life. Although she was a proud Canadian she never forgot her roots and was very adamant in preserving the Italian culture and heritage. She was very active in the Italian Canadian community by volunteering countless hours of her time in helping out at the Italian Pavilion kitchen during Folklorama, always in step beside her husband in participating and coordinating the numerous Gruppo Alpini functions and picnics and was active in her parish of Holy Rosary. Maria loved to travel and did so by returning to Italy many times to visit family and friends. Everywhere she visited, from Mexico to Alaska, Maria was able to make new friends and share a recipe or two with them. Maria had boundless energy when it came to cooking and made it seem so easy and used the same level of effort and passion whether cooking at home for us or to prepare sauces and pasta for hundreds of people attending a picnic. She knew the math in measuring and rarely did it slip. Besides, it was so tasty and good, who cared. She learned the trade as a seamstress and worked as one in her earlier years in Canada until the grandchildren arrived and then devoted her life babysitting them always telling stories and conversing in Italian so they would develop a taste for the language and culture. In her spare time she would spend her time at the cottage in St. Laurent and could always be seen doing, what else, hosting friends and cooking. Maria was the tireless one who would always stay up late to talk with you and lived for her family and tended to them at every opportunity. She became ill a few years back and it was hard to remember her in her heydays filled with laughter, energy and love for her family and friends. The family would love to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa Residence Nursing Station 2 for the kindness and care they gave during her stay there and to the numerous friends and relatives who visited almost on a daily basis to check up on her. She always welcomed your visit with a beaming smile and a handshake. The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 11 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Parish at 510 River Ave. with prayers and viewing starting at 9:30 a.m. Fr. Sam Argenziano officiating. Internment at Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum, 1501 Waverley. There will be a special viewing on Sunday, July 10 from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Chapel 984 Portage Ave., (Aubrey Street entrance). Flowers are gratefully declined.
