EVELYN ALICE WILLIAMS (HUMPHREYS) -
Date of Passing: Jul 07, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEVELYN ALICE WILLIAMS (nee HUMPHREYS) 1930 - 2005 With great sadness we announce the passing of our Mother and Nana on July 7, 2005 at Victoria General Hospital. Mom was the youngest of Hulda and Richard Humphreys' seven children. She was born and raised on a farm west of Ashern, MB. There, she spent her elementary grades at the one-room school house, Beatty School. She completed her high school education at Gorden Bell in Winnipeg, where she was known for her record-setting track performances. Mom settled into city life with a job at Canadian Railway Freight Association. During this time, she met and married her beloved husband Vernon O. Williams, who passed away in 1987. She is survived by daughters, Carol-Lynn and Catherine; grandsons, Daniel and Mathew and sister Florence. Mom was an active and proud Nana who enjoyed spending time with her grandsons. She was a voracious reader with a keen interest in world history. She loved to watch baseball, do crossword puzzles, garden and knit, and was an adventurer who enjoyed travel to numerous cities in Europe and Asia. Mom had a great sense of humour, which often showed while playing cards with her family. Mom worked as a computer processing data analyst for Manitoba Hydro from 1962 until her retirement in 1992. She was a great believer in volunteerism and was actively involved with St. Mary Magdalene Church. She was also a lifetime member of Girl Guides of Canada who awarded her the Beaver for her exceptional service, which included putting into place a literacy program for women in Zambia. Mom's service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on July 13 at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 3 St. Vital Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary Magdalene Church or Girl Guides of Manitoba. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Victoria General Hospital staff, who cared so well for Mom. We love you, Nana.
