JOHN THOMAS LAING December 23, 1922 - July 9, 2005 Passed away peacefully at the Eriksdale Personal Care Home. He was born on the family farm in the Rockwood Municipality and attended Phipps School and Stonewall High School. After leaving school he worked at the Hudson's Bay Company and joined the Navy - taking his training at H.M.C.S. Chippewa. He was posted to the H.M.C.S. Uganda and served in the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres of war. Upon his discharge, he returned to Manitoba and purchased a quarter of land in the Municipality of Rosser where he dedicated his life to farming. During this time, he was also employed by the Interlake School Division as a bus driver. In the fall of 2004 failing health necessitated a move to Eriksdale. He is survived by wife Jean of 57 years; daughter Donna (Glen) Kingsley and family; Brian (Deanna) and Sandra and son-in-law Sheldon Simpson and family; Barton (Angela) and Andria. He was predeceased by his daughter Patricia in 2002. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at MacKenzie's Funeral Chapel in Stonewall on Friday, July 15 at 2:30 p.m. with lunch to follow at the Stonewall Legion. Interment will take place at the Lilyfield Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the Staff of the Eriksdale Personal Care Home and the E.M. Crowe Hospital for their support and compassionate care.
