Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryAGATHA BARKMAN JACKSON It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Agatha Barkman Jackson on July 11, 2005, at the Deer Lodge Hospital, just five days short of her 97th birthday. Aunt Agatha was born July 16, 1908 in Steinbach, MB. She was the second of 14 children born to Jacob D. and Anna E. Barkman. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Wilfred; her parents; sister Anne; six brothers, Fred, Albert, Martin, Walter, Edward and Ted; sisters-in-law, Tien, Evelyn, Agnes, Katherina, Violet, Mary and Pat; brothers-in-law, George Doerksen, Ben K. Dueck, Henry Doerksen and Neil Neufeld. She is survived by sisters, Kay Doerksen of Satanta, Kansas, Helen Dueck of Steinbach, MB, Nettie Doerksen of Satanta, Kansas, Dorothy (Harry) Neufeld of Ile des Chenes, MB and Ruth Neufeld of Steinbach, MB; brother Irwin of New Westminster, BC; and four generations of nieces and nephews scattered across Canada and the United States. Aunt Agatha took an avid interest in the lives of her large extended family, mailing each and everyone birthday, anniversary and special seasonal cards. They were always very much appreciated. Being the second oldest in a family of 14 children meant there were never any idle hands and Aunt Agatha did her share of hard work. In her teens she did housecleaning and various jobs in and around Steinbach but then in her early 20s she left for Winnipeg. She was employed as a domestic for several prominent families, maintaining friendships for years after her retirement. Aunt Agatha led a very active life travelling, visiting and going downtown to Eaton's or the Bay almost daily, meeting friends for breakfast or lunch, regardless of the weather. This she did well into her 90s and slowed the pace only the last few years. For approximately 40 years, she went to Augustine United Church to help fold the church bulletins, together with several other ladies and made true and everlasting friendships. Thank you for being so kind to her, which was not hard because she herself was such a kind and gentle soul. Funeral service 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 14 at Augustine United Church, 444 River Ave. with viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Augustine United Church, Attention: Oak Table, 444 River Ave., Winnipeg MB R3L 0C7 or a charity of your choice.
