GRACE OPAL COGHILL
Date of Passing: Jul 08, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGRACE OPAL COGHILL With family at her side, Opal passed away peacefully on July 8, 2005 at the Grace General Hospital at the age of 78, after a brief illness. Left to mourn her loss are her nephew, Greg and her great-nephew, Michael. Opal was predeceased by her father William in 1960, her mother Muriel in 1991, and her brother Milton in 2002. Born in Tantallon, SK in 1927, Opal decided to enter the nursing field and moved to Ottawa to complete her training at Community Hospital. After gaining her certificate she continued to work in Ottawa and later relocated to Winnipeg, where she worked at Deer Lodge Hospital until her retirement in 1983. Her great passion was to travel, which she did quite frequently after her retirement. Her travels took her to the United States, Europe, Russia and the Baltic, but her favourite city was always San Francisco. Surgery in 1995 prevented her from travelling, however allowed her to enjoy her great love for figure skating. Although she kept much to herself, her dedication throughout her profession made her a very compassionate person. For those who knew her, she was a kind and caring person and always there to talk to. We would like to thank the Grace General Hospital and their staff for the special attention and care given, especially those in the ICU. At Opal's request, cremation has taken place and there will be a service to follow on Tuesday, July 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7, or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. I am sorry to learn that Opal has passed away. As a new grad in 1969 I started work on 6 West at Deer Lodge Hospital. At that time Opal was a staff nurse on the same unit. She was a mentor to me and I shall always remember her as one of the most efficient RN's that I ever worked with throughout my 30+ years at Deer Lodge. My sympathy goes out to her family. - Posted by: Edith Stephenson (Co-Worker) on: Jul 16, 2005
