Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBETTY LENORA EICHEL (nee BERG) May 25, 1932 - July 9, 2005 It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, Betty Lenora Eichel. Peacefully, on Saturday, July 9, 2005, Betty passed away at the Deer Lodge Centre, at the age of 73 years. Betty's memory will be forever cherished by her children, John (Candace), Jo-Anne (Kerry), Jaylene (Bruce) and Jeannette; grandchildren, Harmony, Hillary, Brett, Daniel, Brent, Paige, Max and Spencer; brothers and sisters, Bertil (Dorothy), Blanche (Baldur), Reid (Donna), Wally (Karen), Cherri (Ray), Lillie (Wayne), Margaret (Bill) and Terry-Lynn (Walter); as well as numerous relatives and friends. She had many great friends that she held dear to her heart. Betty was predeceased by her infant sister Margret; parents, Otto and Lillie Berg; the father of her children, Norman Eichel; and companion Leo Melnychuk. On May 25, 1932, Betty was born to Otto and Lillie Berg in Eriksdale, MB. She grew up on the family farm, where being the eldest of nine children meant she worked hard to help her mother care for her brothers and sisters. Betty loved to attend all the local dances and socialize with her many friends and family. She taught grade school in the Interlake region before marrying Norman Eichel in 1952. Betty and Norman began their life together residing in Camper, MB, whereby, she supported him in establishing the family trucking business. Together they had four children, John, Jo-Anne, Jaylene and Jeannette. Later in life, mom moved to Sturgis, SK where she met Leo. They enjoyed many years until 1986, when she was involved in a car accident that almost took her life. Mom then returned to Winnipeg after recovering so she could be closer to her family. We were so lucky to have had another 19 years before her health deteriorated. She was most happy while in the company of family and many special friends. Grandma was proud of all her grandchildren and loved them dearly. Especially proud of her oldest granddaughter, Harmony, who graduated from education in June, 2005. In keeping with Betty's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A private family interment will take place in Sturgis, SK. Our family would like to thank all of the staff at Deer Lodge Centre. Mom appreciated all that you did for her in her own way. Mom will be forever loved, remembered and missed by everyone who knew her. She will especially be remembered for that twinkle in her eye. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Suite 200, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
