A funeral service will be held at the Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 19 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Michael Wollbaum officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlands Cemetery. Mary was born on May 25, 1906 to Phillip and Pearl Andrushak. She emigrated from Ukraine with her parents to Arness, MB when she was about two years old. They lived there for a time, then moved to Rathwell where she got her education. They then moved to Layland. From there Mary took a job at the University of Manitoba and she worked there for many years. This was where she met and married Harry Sorton in 1947. Shortly after that they moved and started farming at Rathwell which they did for many years and then they took on the Post office there and ran that until retiring in 1970 to a life of golfing, curling, bowling and travelling on many bus tours and then a trip to England with her husband Harry to visit his relatives. In 1974 Harry passed away and Mary moved to Portage la Prairie and continued to enjoy golfing, curling and bowling. She now travelled with her sister Anne Pongoski. They made trips to Eastern Canada and to the United States, in particular to Las Vegas. Mary would spend many an afternoon down by the diversion fishing. In the evening she would dance at the A.N. A.F., but in 1997 she broke her hip and this really slowed her down. Mary started to play cards in the Stephen's block where she lived until she moved to the Lion's Prairie Manor in May 2003. Mary was predeceased by her brothers, Mike, Bill, John, Pete and Paul; sisters, Anne and Rosie. She leaves to mourn her passing her brother Fred and sister Helen of Winnipeg, and numerous nieces, nephews and especially Max and Janet Nichols. If friends so desire memorial donations may be made in Mary's name to the Lion's Prairie Manitoba Foundation, CHAPEL FUND, 24-9th St. S.E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3V4.
