ANNA PETERS We are saddened to announce the quiet passing of our mother on July 17, 2005. Her family is - daughters, Mary (John) Witzke, Annie (Rudolph) Schmidt, Tina (Jake) Froese; grandchildren, Ed Witzke, Helga Witzke, Edward (Susan) Schmidt, Erich (Ruby) Schmidt, David (Janice) Schmidt, Caroline Froese; great-grandchildren, Andrea Witzke, Jennifer Witzke, Danielle Schmidt, Miranda Schmidt, Jessica Schmidt; great-great-grandchildren, Taylor Witzke, Jordan Witzke. She was predeceased by her husband Frank Peters, one grandson, one great-granddaughter, three sisters and five brothers. Our mother Anna Peters was born to Jakob and Anna Thielmann, nee Friesen, in Blumenort Ukraine. At her age of two the family moved to Rosenort, Sagradowka where our mother spent her happy childhood and youth. On Pentecost Sunday 1926 she was baptized on her confession of faith by Rev. Heinrich Voth and joined the Nicolaifelder Mennonite Church. She spent her lifetime in the service of her Saviour in the different churches to which she transferred her membership. She led a quiet yet determined Christian life along with her fellow believers. Psalm 90 expressed a lifelong motto for her, 'Lord you have been our dwelling place in all generations --- so teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart.' On November 3, 1929 she married Franz Peter Peters. Three daughters were born to them. In 1943 our parents, their mother, their daughters with many others fled before the advancing Russian army. It was a long, treacherous and trying trek to Germany out of immediate danger. In 1948 they immigrated to Canada, briefly living in Petersfield, MB before settling in Winnipeg in 1950. They had experienced two world wars and a revolution with all the threats, unrest, dangers, disruption and chaos that accompany them. Here they were grateful for the peace, security and freedom that they had found in their country of choice. They took the fact that they had been able to remain intact as a family as the grace of God. They joined the First Mennonite Church and participated in its variety of services. Mother was always interested in plants, especially flowers and wildlife. At the age of 80 she took a delightful camping trip to Alaska with her children. She enjoyed the memories of that trip for the rest of her life. The family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers at Bethania Personal Care Home for their compassionate and empathetic care through the four and one half years of mother's residing there. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Mennonite Church with interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Viewing Wednesday 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:00 p.m. at the Bethania Personal Care Home and at the church prior to the service. If friends desire donations may be made to Faith Life or Bethania. Arrangements by Friends Funeral Service Phone 339-5555
