FRED KUSCHAK 1932 - 2005 After a lengthy illness, Fred Kuschak passed away at the Health Sciences Centre on July 18, 2005. Fred was born in Hazelridge, MB to Anne and Dmytro, March 13, 1932 and was the youngest of six children in his family. He was predeceased by his father (1964), and mother (1985), his wife Louise, of 32 years (1987), and also by his brother John (1994). He leaves to mourn his brother William (Helen) Kuschak of Toronto, and sisters, Kay Hayes-Sheen (Sault Ste. Marie), Eva Hrabchuk, (Toronto), and Anne Fischer (Komarno, MB), and his only son Theodore (Brenda) Kuschak in Winnipeg. Fred also had numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Fred lived and worked on the family farm until 1951 when he and his parents moved to Winnipeg. He was employed by Bristol Aerospace Ltd., for 27 years and by Standard Aero Ltd. for several years, where he enjoyed the daily challenges of aerospace metallurgy. Fred had a passion and was gifted when it came to metallurgy and to teaching metallurgy. Fred enjoyed working with his hands; specifically he enjoyed working with wood, and gardening. He would often be seen poring through both seed catalogues and those that specialized in wood working equipment. He even dabbled in masonry and was quite good at it. He also was quite interested in photography and honed his photographic skills both as a hobby and at work. Fred had an interesting and well-developed sense of humour. He was the kind of man who could converse with all people, young and old - one who could get anyone laughing hysterically after a funny, and usually true story. He earned the respect of all who got to know him. Fred was a kind and warm soul who taught by example. He was a good husband and father, strongly devoted to his family. Anyone who knew him realized that he had a big heart. Fred was a voluminous reader who enjoyed exploring a variety of literature. In this same vein he was a spiritual man, one who was well versed in literature that dealt with the spiritual aspects of his life; He acquired and read a wide spectrum of books about his faith. During his protracted illness, he was in the care of many wonderful and caring physicians, nurses, and unit assistants at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg; far too many to try to remember and name. We sincerely thank the staff of D3, SICU, IICU, A4, and RR4, who looked after Fred when he was in their care. Finally, we thank the staff of D5 who made his last days comfortable. Thanks also to family, friends, colleagues, and neighbours who always asked about dad and passed on their best wishes while he was ill. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel at 1442 Main St. Divine Liturgy will follow at the Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church in Cooks Creek, MB at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Taras Kowch officiating. Fred will be interred next to his beloved wife Louise at the All Saints Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Winnipeg. Pallbearers are Dr. Don Dubik, Dr. Travis Takeuchi, Dr. Darin Banmann, Mr. Luciano Morrone, Mr. Gregory Smith, and Dr. Theodore Kuschak. Mr. Donald Fischer, Fred's nephew will also be an honorary pallbearer. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred's memory to the Plast Ukrainian Youth Association. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
