MILDRED (MILLIE) HAWRYSH (nee DYLL) Peacefully, with her daughter and son-in-law by her side, Millie Hawrysh passed away in the early hours of Saturday, July 16, 2005, at the Health Sciences Centre, after a two year battle with lung cancer. She will be sorrowfully missed by her daughter Connie Hawrysh, son-in-law Jim Haier and granddaughters, Caitlyn and Ashleigh; sister Jessie Chernetz of White Rock, BC; nephew Richard (Rose) Shandruk of Thunder Bay, ON; nephew Tim Shandruk (Andi Geddye) of Nolalu, ON; nephew Terry (Paulette) Dyll of Thunder Bay, ON; nephew Robert Dyll of Cranbrook, BC; nephew Tom (Irene) Chernetz; niece Barbara Cofield of Whistler, BC; numerous great-nieces and nephews, and many relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Anthony (Tony), her mother Mary, father Joseph, sister Eugenia (Jean) Shandruk, and brother Edward Dyll. Millie was born on March 14, 1927, the youngest of the four surviving children of Mary and Joseph Dyll. She was educated in Winnipeg, played baseball for CUAC and worked at Burns. On May 31, 1952, she married Anthony Hawrysh, a local artist and craftsman. They enjoyed the outdoors, where they camped and fished with friends and relatives. She was a dedicated mother, wife and business partner where she tirelessly assisted Tony in operating the family business, Hawrysh Glass, until his death in October 1975; maintained a lively household; raised her loving daughter; assisted aging parents; and entertained many friends and relatives. In the early seventies, she worked outside the home in a few local businesses - Norman's Pharmacy, Marymound Home for Girls and Avenue Meats. She was a life member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Ukrainian Canadian Veterans Branch 141, where she and Tony enjoyed the company of many friends over the years. In her later years, she loved watching baseball, especially the Toronto Blue Jays; the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, doing crossword puzzles, which she would cross-check with her friend Doris; playing bingo with Connie, and enjoying the company of many family members. The family would like to thank the staff of Health Sciences Centre GD5 for their assistance and support until her peaceful demise; also, the staff of GD4 and CancerCare Manitoba. Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 21 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. with Rev. R. Ferries officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
