Karly was born on March 8, 1912 in Fauske, Norway. She was predeceased by her husband Olav Gilleshammer in 1998 in Erickson, as well as by her parents Kristian and Kristina, her sisters Esther, Kaja, Torbjorg, Haldis, and Audhild and her brothers Hans, Radar and Arne in Norway. Karly will be lovingly remembered by her sons and their families; Ken and Pat Gilleshammer of Winnipeg and Harold and Diana Gilleshammer of Minnedosa; grandson Brian, his wife Cheryl and great-granddaughters Laura and Sarah of Winnipeg; granddaughter Janet of Vancouver; grandson Allen of Winnipeg; granddaughter Susan of Brandon; granddaughter Barbra, her husband Curt and Karly's newest great-grandson, Harry, of Sandy Lake. Karly is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families in Norway. Karly left Norway in 1930 to come to Canada with her sister Esther, Esther's husband Johan, and their four boys. She soon met Olav Gilleshammer, who was also from Norway, and they married in 1933. In the early years of their marriage, they lived in Winnipeg, St. Norbert and White Plains. During this time their two sons, Ken and Harold were born. In 1943, they moved to Erickson where they lived for the next six decades. Karly was an active member of the community - curling, cross-country skiing and taking part in the Erickson Lutheran Church. Karly and Olav took great pride in their home and beautiful gardens. Karly's family was her greatest joy. She was so proud of the accomplishments of her sons and the achievements of all her grandchildren. She was especially delighted by her great-grandchildren Laura, Sarah and Harry. The family would like to thank the staff at Minnedosa Personal Care Home for their kindness and dedication in caring for Karly during her years at the care home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the Erickson Lutheran Church, with Elgin Hall officiating. Interment will take place at the Bethel Lutheran (Danvers) Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully directed to the Bethel Lutheran Society, Box 292, Erickson, MB, R0J 0P0. Remembrances and condolences may be emailed to raesfs@mts.net. Rae's Funeral Service of Erickson is in care of arrangements. (204) 636-7727
