Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH ELEANOR MARGARET SEEKINGS (nee CASTLE) 1927 - 2005 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Ruth Seekings (Gramma Ruth) of Selkirk, MB on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 after a very brief illness. Left to cherish her in their memories are her children, Jim (Jan), Philip, Elizabeth (Ken) and Peter (Pam); and her precious grandsons, Jimmy, Christopher, Jeffrey and P.J. Ruth also leaves behind her brothers, Stan (Alice), Albie (Alice) and Cliff (Edna); her sister Eileen and sister-in-law Francis, all from Ontario; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Jim, brothers, Art and William, brother-in-law Murdock and sister-in-law Connie. Ruth was born in Donnacona, QC to Stanley and Margaret Castle who immigrated to Canada from England. Her family later moved to Cornwall, ON where Ruth met and married Jim Seekings. Shortly after they were married, Ruth and Jim moved to Belleville, ON where they would start their family. After all the children were born they moved out to Thomasburg, ON to enjoy life in the country. Summers were spent camping and working in the garden, while winters were spent watching the kids play hockey at the Seekings rink. Mom always had a huge pot of hot chocolate on the stove for all the kids who hung out at our place. After her husband's untimely death in 1972, Ruth moved her family to Hamilton, ON to start a new life. Ruth attended Mohawk College in Stoney Creek, ON in order to upgrade her education. After graduating from the adult education program, she started her career with McMaster University and remained there until her retirement. Once again, Ruth pulled up stakes and moved to Selkirk, MB where she could be with her family and grandsons which she loved so dearly. Ruth's other love was her passion for baseball. She even went to spring training in Florida to watch her Toronto Blue Jays warm up for the season. She attended many games in Toronto with friends and family. Determined, stubborn, generous, loving, caring, proud and putting herself before others are some of the characteristics that helped her overcome the adversities in her life. She faced roadblocks that others would not even attempt to move. It is these values and beliefs that gained the respect of all those who knew and loved her. She will be forever in our hearts. Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that's the stuff life is made of. Benjamin Franklin In keeping with Ruth's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. Special thanks to Cheryl and the ladies from homecare, Cindy Fey, Betel Home staff, and the doctors and nurses at the Selkirk General Hospital. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
