HILTON CLARENCE HARPER On July 20, 2005 Mr. Hilton C. Harper, aged 91 years, passed away at Grace General Hospital Winnipeg, MB. A long time resident at 302 Lockwood Street, most recently he spent a happy and active 14 years at The Wellington. Mr. Harper was predeceased by his beloved wife Donalda in 1988; as well as by his parents, Albert and Hilletta Harper and by his brothers and sisters, Ben, Lewetta, Switzer, Lawrence, Lyle and Verna. He is survived by one sister Mrs. Pearle Hall of Calgary, AB; his daughter Marion and son-in-law Dennis Simpson and son Jack and daughter-in-law Pat Harper, all of Winnipeg. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Michael, wife Danielle and great-granddaughter Desirae Simpson, Denise Simpson, and Daniel and Jessica Harper. He will be missed by his special friend Katherine Mulholland. Mr. Harper was born in Brandon, MB on June 7 1914. He attended Hayfield School, Brandon Collegiate, and graduated from Brandon College with a Bachelor of Arts in 1935. In 1949 he attained his Bachelor of Education, followed in 1954 by his Master of Education, both from the University of Manitoba. Mr. Harper dedicated 37 years of his life to the teaching profession. He was Principal of the Brookdale, Foxwarren, Belmont and Elgin schools before moving to Winnipeg where he taught in a number of elementary and junior high schools for 24 years. He retired from Elmwood High School in 1974. Mr. Harper had a zest for life, demonstrated by his many community involvements. He was an elder of Westminster and Westworth United Churches. He was Past Master and Life Member of Prince Rupert's Masonic Lodge and Past Patron of Friendship Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. In 2001 he received his 60 year bar for Masonic membership. Mr. Harper was also past president and life member of the Tuxedo Lawn Bowling Club, life member of the Charleswood Curling Club and president of The Wellington Resident Council, Additionally he held a number of leadership roles in the Mentor's Club, Charleswood Curling Club, Charleswood Horticultural Society and the AOTS Club of Westworth Church. The family wishes to thank the kind nurses and staff at Grace General Hospital and the wonderful staff at The Wellington. A memorial service will be held at Westworth United Church at 1750 Grosvenor Avenue at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 23 with Reverend Clarke Saunders and Reverend Eleanor Geib officiating. A noon reception will follow the service at The Wellington, 3161 Grant Avenue. Family internment will follow at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salvation Army, Westworth United Church, United Way of Winnipeg or a charity of choice. Thomson Funeral Home 669 Broadway - 783-7211
