HILDA JONINA JOHNSON On July 16, 2005, Hilda Johnson got her rest at the Arborg District Hospital in Arborg, MB after a short battle with cancer at the age of 75 years. She was predeceased by her father John James, 1942, mother Sigurlin (Lena), 1978, brother Stefan, 1991, sister-in-law Margaret, 2004 and sister Sigrun, 1993. She will be remembered by her brother Harold (Anna); and nephews, Reg and James (Sheila); great-nephews, Paul and Tim; and great-niece Beth; and nieces, Sylvia (Maurice), Mabel (Ron), Gwen (Gerry), Sandra and Verna and their children; and her special cousin Laufey Thorvaldson. Hilda was born on the family farm in Arborg on August 29, 1929, the youngest of four children. She was raised in the Arborg area and received her education in Arborg. After leaving school, Hilda was a permit teacher in Darwin School District near Oakview, MB in 1947 to 1948. She worked at Arborg Co-op and Ken's Cafe before getting a job with the CIBC bank in 1950. Hilda's banking career of over 35 years was split between three branches, Arborg and Main Office in Winnipeg (389 Main Street and One Lombard Place) and for a short time at Portage and Garry. At her retirement in 1985, Hilda was commended for her exceptionally accurate and reliable manner and for being a highly valued member of the department. She was noted for cooperating well with other members of the staff and for being well liked by customers. Hilda moved back to Arborg after her retirement where she resided for 20 years. Hilda enjoyed playing the piano and played for local dances before moving to Winnipeg in 1959. Hilda resided with her sister Sigrun in Winnipeg and Arborg. They took several holiday trips across Canada and the United States as well as travelling to Hawaii, England and Iceland where they met several relatives. After her return to Arborg, Hilda was active in the community as treasurer for the Arborg Hospital Ladies' Auxiliary for several years. The family would like to thank Dr. Schroeder of CancerCare Manitoba in Winnipeg, Dr. Doherty and the staff of Arborg Hospital and the home care workers who took care of Hilda at the Sunrise Lodge. Special thanks to Raideen Parada for her friendship and care of Hilda. Cremation has taken place and a graveside burial will be held at the Arborg Community Cemetery on July 27 at 2:00 p.m. followed by coffee at the Arborg Bifrost Community Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Remember me and I will live on through you. Remember me in all we did together and I will live on through you. Remember me and all the good times we shared and I will live on through you. Remember me and all the tough times we endured together and I will live on through you. Remember me and learn from my mistakes and I shall live on through you. Remember me and receive my love and I shall live on through you. Remember me, yet move along and enjoy the gift of each day so that we may live on together. James G. Johnson Gooa nott, Hilda. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
