Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPHINE PODOLSKY 1910 - 2005 After a lengthy illness mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Josephine, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 19, 2005 at age 95 years, while a resident at Lions Manor Personal Care Home in Winnipeg. Josephine was born June 2, 1910 in Vita, MB. She was predeceased by her husband Michael Podolsky in 1988; as well as her parents, Fred and Pauline Michaniuk; sister Angela (at birth); brother Joseph; daughter Iris (young); grandson Kevin Podolsky and son-in-law Carl Newman. Josephine spent most of her long life in Vita where she raised their three children, Sonia (Newman), Iris (deceased) and Michael. Mother was orphaned at six years old and eventually began work at an early age as a domestic with an English family in Winnipeg. She learned many new skills there which served her well in her move to Vita where she took up married life on a farm north of town. After a subsequent move to town in 1950, Josephine became actively involved with the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League, the Vita Hospital Guild, the Vita 4-H Club and others. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting and baking which she joyfully donated to the various organizations. Mother's life revolved mainly around her children. She was very attentive to their needs and was always there for them. In her later years she became sight impaired which eventually led to blindness. This however did not deter her interest in daily life nor diminish her sense of humour. In 1989 Josephine relocated to Winnipeg where she resided until her demise. Josephine will be fondly remembered by her children Sonia and Michael; grandchildren, Sandra (Jack) Saltarelli, Jeff (Sharon) Newman, Pamela Young, Bradley (Tally) Young, Brian Podolsky, Elizabeth (Kevin) Hynek; and great-grandchildren, Craig and Brie Newman, and Vanessa Saltarelli. The family wishes to express many heartfelt thanks to Edna and her caring staff at Lions Manor, 4th floor, who provided so much care and comfort in Mother's final days. Our most sincere appreciation for their kindness. Thank you also goes out to Dr. Patel and the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital, 5th floor, for their attentive care during her times there. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating Josephine's life will be held at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church in Vita, MB on Saturday, July 23 at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow the service. Deacon Leon Twerdun officiating. VICHNAYA PAMYAT
