MIKE ZACHARKIW May 19, 1914 - July 19, 2005 It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Mike at the Selkirk General Hospital on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at 91 years of age with family present. He was predeceased by his wife Mary and two sons, Russell and Maurice; brothers, Stan and Tom. Mike is survived by his sons, Robert (Judy), Larry, and Allan (Coreen); daughter Barb (Ron) and daughters-in-law, Shirley and Helen. Also surviving him are his sisters, Anne and Kay. Left to mourn and miss him most are his adoring grandchildren, Kevin (Kendra), Estelle (Gerald), Darren (Nancy), Brent (Susan), Andrea, Justin (Corinna), Craig (Cheryl), Rob (Kylee), Derek, Kelly, Michael (Nicole) and Cory (Brandi); great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kyle, Nicholas, Brendan, Ali, Connor, Miranda, Evan, Hunter, Skyler, Lexi and Cooper all in their tender ages know and will lovingly remember him as their Gigi in the wheelchair. Mike was born on May 19, 1914 in Fraserwood, MB where he lived and farmed with his late wife Mary and where they raised their family. In 1957 they moved to Winnipeg Beach and made life style changes. Mike was employed at the Manitoba Department of Highways as foreman retiring in 1974. Mike was very capable with his hands and a skilled craftsman. He enjoyed woodwork, inventing handy tools for home use and gardening. He built a pair of (cymbaly) dulcimers and was most proud of them because of his heritage. Most of all he enjoyed playing cards, especially Hearts and King Pedro with his children, neighbours and friends. The family expresses many heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Fr. Chorney, Gilbart Funeral Home and the staff and all the health care providers at the Betel Home and the Selkirk and District Hospital for all their care and concern. A family service was held on Friday, July 22, at Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk, MB.
