A. HARVEY BAKER 1922 - 2005 With his beloved family by his side, Harvey passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Thursday, July 21, 2005. Harvey was born at home in Winnipeg, where he lived most of his life except for when he served his country during the Second World War from 1942 to 1946. Upon his return he continued his career with Manitoba Telephone System for 32 and one half years and retired in 1972. Upon his retirement he spent 30 wonderful winters in Arizona and the last four (winter) years in Penticton, BC. Harvey and his loving wife Phyllis moved to Gimli in 1978, where he resided until his death. He loved golfing and was proud of this three holes in one , he also loved playing pool and fishing and happy times at Nutimik Lake at their cottage. Harvey was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Gimli Branch. Harvey was predeceased by his parents and leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Phyllis, daughter Patricia (Allan), grandson Ronald, granddaughter Alana Gee, all of Coquitlam, BC, daughter Beverley (Wilf) Gusty, granddaughter Lara-Lea (Dale) Avery, Chris (Cara) Allwood and great-grandson Baby Austin, all of Winnipeg and also Harvey's four footed friend Tara. The family would like to thank Dr. Chapnick and Dr. Myeni and also the nurses at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli. Also, the M.I.C.U. staff of the Health Science Centre, Dr. Wiebe and all the other doctors and especially the nurses, Jackie and Shirley for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Harvey and his family. Thank you to Place Louis Riel all Suite Hotel for their wonderful support to myself (Phyllis) and Tara, also to my niece Trudy and husband Robert Taylor for their continuing support to Harvey and myself. As per Harvey's wishes there will be no formal funeral. A private family memorial will be held August 9 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gimli Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society Building Fund or a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
