Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN RALPH LOUIS PLANTJE June 13, 1943 - July 24, 2005 On Sunday, July 24, 2005, Mr. John Ralph Louis Plantje of Sherwood Park, AB, formerly of Winnipeg, MB passed away peacefully and suddenly at the age of 62. John will be loving remembered by his wife Penny, his daughter Jill (fiance Daniel Unruh and his son Lee Unruh); Jeff (Gail), grandson Josh, sister Lynda McCullough, niece Karen, nephew Robert and a large, loving family in Winnipeg. John was predeceased by his mother Helen, his father Louis and his brother-in-law Jay McCullough. John was born and raised in Winnipeg. He and his sister Lynda grew up in a loving and hard working family in a little home on what was then the edge of Winnipeg. In 1964, he married the love of his life, Penny. They started a family in 1965 with the birth of their son Jeff, they were blessed again in 1969, when their daughter Jill was born. Shortly after Jill's birth the family moved to Calgary to further John's career in insurance adjusting. John was very active in the insurance industry and Blue Goose for over 30 years. His career took him from Calgary to Sherwood Park, back to Winnipeg in the 1980s and finally back to Sherwood Park. After over 30 years in the insurance business, John felt it was time for a change. He and Penny bought a Joey's Only Seafood restaurant. John loved the interaction with his customers and friends. His enjoyment of his work led to success. In 2001, he and Penny were named Business Persons of the Year by the Sherwood Park Chamber of Commerce. John loved to golf in the summer and curl in the winter and played crib all year round. He was also a longtime member of the Sherwood Park Rotary Club. A celebration of John's life will take place on Thursday, July 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Park Place Funeral Home, 51 Broadway Blvd., Sherwood Park.
