JOHN (HOPPY) KARLANCHUK Peacefully on Sunday, July 24, 2005 surrounded by his family, John at the age of 92 years passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital. John is survived by his daughter Diane (Ernie) Hnatchuk; four grandchildren, Lori (Ron) Malcolm, Charlene (Al) Hanis, Barry (Christina) Hnatchuk and Jason (Kelly) Hnatchuk; seven great-grandchildren, Bret, Aaron and Garrett Malcolm, Stephanie and Wesley Hanis and Breanna and Jennifer Hnatchuk; also two nieces and one nephew. He was predeceased by his wife Bernice in 1996; parents, Karpon and Teklea; sisters, Annie, Mary and twin Betty; brothers, William and Fred. He was born in Teulon on July 26, 1912. He married Bernice on March 6, 1943. They had a store from 1951 to 1952. He worked at the Teulon Rink and the Teulon Motor Hotel. Then in 1957 he went to Moose Jaw to work for CPR for awhile. He worked for the Manitoba Highways Department until his retirement. John played goalie for the Teulon Tigers in his younger years. He loved to share stories of how he played without any equipment with his hockey player grandsons, Barry and Jason; and great-grandsons, Bret and Garrett. He loved to curl and play cards. He had many trophies to show off his accomplishments. He enjoyed playing cards and bingo at Gateway Manor and with his many friends there. He loved to walk to the corner restaurant (Bill and Bea's) for his coffee every afternoon up until his last week of life. A prayer service will be held at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Teulon on Thursday, July 28 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Teulon Rockwood Centennial Centre on Friday, July 29 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Windsor Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons, Barry and Jason; great-grandsons, Bret, Aaron and Garrett; and grandson-in-law Ron. Honorary pallbearers are George Leduchowski, Roger Leduchowski, Ernie Madill and Brian Lowe. The family would like to thank Dr. Pillay and the nurses at the Teulon Hospital for the wonderful care they gave him. Also thanks to the doctors and nurse Sarah in Emergency at the St. Boniface Hospital and the doctors and nurses on 7A South especially Karen, Stacey and Michelle for their tender, compassionate care they gave him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Teulon in care of arrangements.
