HELEN MILLER July 4, 1921 - July 24, 2005 It is with sadness and a sense of great loss that we announce the passing of Helen Miller (nee Gorchinsky) at St. Boniface Hospital. Predeceased by her father John and mother Mary; sisters, Elsie, Anne, Lena; and brothers, Frank and Tony. Helen is survived by Jimmy, her devoted husband of almost 60 years. Helen will be missed by her many relatives, godchildren and friends. Born near Goodeve, SK, Helen grew up on the Canadian prairie, later attending the University of Saskatchewan where she completed a Bachelor of Household Science. This was followed by wartime work in a munitions plant, an internship in dietetics at St. Micheal's Hospital in Toronto, and a move to London, ON, where she worked at Victoria Hospital where she met Jimmy. They were married on April 10, 1946. Jimmy completed his medical degree, and they moved to Hamilton, ON, St. John, NB, and Esterhazy, SK. They made a permanent move to Winnipeg in 1951 where a medical practice and a wonderful life together unfolded. Helen loved flowers, gardening, cooking, languages, conversation, travel, laughter, golf at Niakwa and helping other people. Helen was an exceptional friend and a devoted godmother to her 13 godchildren. A special thank you to Fr. Fred Olds, Fr. Renato Pasinato, and Fr. Sam Argenziano for their spiritual support and friendship throughout the past 25 years and to Dr. W. Albi, Dr. F. Albi, and Dr. A. Miller for their long term medical care. Thank you to the staff of 7A and 5B at St. Boniface Hospital for care and support provided over the past month. You are a great team. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 29 at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Rd., with interment to follow at St. Vital Cemetery, 236 River Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen's name may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The Coutu family in care of arrangements E. J. COUTU CO.
