In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of one's choice. Besides one sister, Susie Enns, Maria is survived by six daughters, Katie Paetkau, Brooks, AB; Marie (John) Zacharias, Anola, MB; Margaret (Werner) Pauls, Niverville, MB; Helena Bewsky, Winnipeg, MB; Susie Thiessen, Moose Jaw, SK; Elizabeth (David) Siemens, St. Andrews, MB; six sons, Neil, Peter, Daniel (Judy), Frank, all of Winnipeg; David, Steinbach; and Henry (Irene), Leduc, AB; 24 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Cornelius F. Peters, on March 19, 1977 and by 11 siblings, three sons-in-law, and one daughter-in-law. Maria was born June 6, 1906, in the village of Schoenhorst, Russia. In 1925 she was baptized and accepted into membership of the Mennonite Church. In September of 1926 she immigrated to Canada with her mother and five siblings. She married Cornelius F. Peters on April 10, 1928 and they farmed in Greenridge, MB until 1971 when they moved to Steinbach. She spent many days at Steinbach Mennonite Village Museum spinning wool and sewed many quilts for MCC. She visited Bangladesh, Florida, Germany, Egypt, Israel, and attended all her grandchildrens' graduations across Canada. At the age of 79 she had surgery for a pituitary gland tumour and recovered remarkably to resume her active lifestyle for another 10 years. She was thankful that God saw fit to bless her in spite of her many weaknesses. Her greatest desire was that all her children would find salvation through Jesus Christ. In 1998 she began to experience signs of dementia and in January 1999 she moved to Bethesda Personal Care Home. There she had a stroke in 2001, followed by another in 2004. The family is deeply grateful to the staff of Bethesda Place for the loving care they gave our mother for the last six and a half years.
