ANN AUSTFORD (nee HALKOWICH) On Tuesday, July 26, 2005, another angel entered God's arms. After a brief, but courageous battle, Ann Austford's soul left her bruised and sore shell of a body to soar to Heaven. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Darlene Pinkos (Bruce), Jo-Ann Panchuk (Grant), Dianne Joyal (Jerome); as well her memory will live on with her grandchildren, Kale (Danna), Chad, Destiny (Gerrit), Ben (Rachelle), Bobbi (Tim), Gabby, Christine, Sam, Gina; and her great-grandchildren, Ethan, Serina, Josiah; also left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Ellen Anderson (Sig) and Mary Nickel; along with her brothers, John (Della), Roman (Jeanette), Daniel (Corlene); numerous nieces and nephews as well as Joseph Austford. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Wasyl Halkowich; and her sister Leona Dobish. Ann was born on November 28, 1930, in St. Martin, MB. She was the second eldest in a large family and quickly became the second mom to many of her younger siblings. She met and married Joseph Austford on June 18, 1954, and they moved into Winnipeg. Three daughters - her pride and joy - Darlene, Jo-Ann, Dianne were born of this union. Through very difficult times and numerous moves, she raised her girls, put herself through school and worked as a food services supervisor at Health Sciences Centre and Seven Oaks Hospitals. After this she semi-retired, re-educated herself and spent another 15 years working as an infant supervisor at the Maples and later, Pinkham Daycares. While she enjoyed work, her family was her life. Selfless and compassionate, she always had advice to offer. She greatly enjoyed family occasions at anytime of the year. Ann greatly appreciated the companionship of her pomeranian dog, Ginger. Her hands were always busy knitting or crocheting for gifts to others or her ever expanding family. They were all her precious gems. Her life during the last few years centred around her great-grandchildren, grandchildren and daughters. She did some travelling within Canada and even flew by plane a few times - which she often said she'd never do! She also cherished the little things in life - her clematis plant and Sunday church services followed by coffee and a treat at Tim Horton's. At this time the family wishes to express their gratitude for the expert care given by the staff at the Grace Hospital Intensive Care Unit. We know that our Mom and Nana is at home in Heaven with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ and that through Him we will be together again. The service of remembrance will be held on Friday, July 29 at Knysh Funeral Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Viewing one hour prior to service. If family and friends so desire, a donation may be made in Ann's memory to the Children's Hospital. In accordance with Ann's wishes, cremation will take place after the service. Her ashes will be placed in three urns to reside with her daughters. Knysh Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
