Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANTOINE ERNEST AZURE Antoine Ernest Azure was born Tuesday, May 13, 1919 at Turtle Mountain, North Dakota. Antoine enrolled in the 10th District Depot, Royal Canadian Artillery on July 1, 1942 and served in the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean area. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star - Italy Star, Defense Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service, Medal and Clasp, Aboriginal Veterans Medal. Antoine was united in marriage to Pauline DeLaronde, Saturday, November 23, 1946 at St. Theodore Catholic Church, Wabowden, MB with Fr. Marcel Durand presiding. During that time, Antoine worked as a constable at The Pas and then moved on to be a Conservation Officer for a period of time. After that he worked for CNR, both central and southern areas. The remainder of his healthy years, he was a commercial fisherman and trapper; he also guided for hunting and fishing. Due to his health in the last 10 years, he lived in retirement homes in The Pas, Winnipeg and Lion's Prairie Manor in Portage La Prairie. Antoine passed away Friday, July 15, 2005 at the Lion's Prairie Manor, Portage La Prairie, MB, aged 86 years. Antoine is survived by his loving wife and friend, Pauline Azure; children, Helen Nabess, Ernest H. Azure, Abe Azure (Al), Brian Azure (Miriam), Elaine Azure (John), Darlene Azure, Gerald Azure (Jenafor), Ernest (Bubs) Azure (Sheri); sister, Clara Spence of Swan River, MB; sister-in-law, Rolande Azure; grandchildren, Sheldon, Cindy, Mina, Greg, Delia, Amanda Stephanie, Ernestine, Justin, Alvina, David, Chelsea, Steven, Clayton, Clinton, Chantelle, Keith, Robin, Amber, Katlyn, Ashley, Jarrett, Nicole, Logan, Aaron, Jeanette, Melanie; nieces and nephews, Sharon (Don) Sharpe, Ellen, Jackie James, Linda, Gwen, Shelby, Debbie, Caroline, Mary, Ralph, Kenneth, Eddie; great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives. Antoine was predeceased by his parents, Moise and Josephine Azure (nee Beauchamp); children, Wayne Azure, Tony Azure, David Azure; grandchildren, Devon George Azure-Ducharme, Belinda Lynn Nabess, Barry Bruce Nabess; brothers, Bill Azure, John Azure, Ovide Azure, Joe Azure, Maurice Azure; sister, Albertine Lundie; nephews, Kendall Azure, Max Azure, Calvin Elder; nieces, Geraldine Elder (Lundie), Doreen Constant (Azure), Roxanne Azure; sisters-in-law, Bella Lathlin (Azure), Mary Ann Constant (Azure); son-in-law, Bruce Nabess. A wake service was held Wednesday, July 20, 7:00 p.m. at the Church of Messiah, Opaskwayak Cree Nation. The funeral service was held Thursday, July 21, 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cathedral, The Pas, with Rev. Paul Bringleson presiding. Music Ministry was by Tanis Asselstine, Teresa Pidskalny and OCN Gospel Singers. The Royal Canadian Legion Tribute was led by James Hemauer. Pallbearers were Ernest (Bubs) Azure, Clinton Ducharme, Ralph Azure, Brian Azure, Roy Richard, William (Shorty) Lathlin. Honorary Pallbearers were all Antoine's family and friends. Royal Canadian Legion Honour Guard were Joe Cloutier, Doug Goldstrand Sr., Claude Joyal, Jim Blake, David Grant. Following the interment prayers at Lakeside Cemetery, a reception was held at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, The Pas. Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas, in care of arrangements.
