BJARNE (BARNEY) OIVIND GULBRANDSEN May 18, 1929 - July 27, 2005 Bjarne was born in Oslo, Norway. Believing that better opportunity awaited him, he immigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1952. After some months, he found his way to Winnipeg, MB, where he met his beloved wife Helen at the Devon Cafe. With his Canadian wife and two children, they moved back to Norway, only to return with four children a few years later and settle in Winnipeg, where he has resided since. As an European trained painter, Bjarne successfully worked in the painting and decorating industry for many years until he established his own business. Bjarne had many interests and passions which included being an avid photographer, reader and a traveller. He loved music, played the accordion and he also had a talent for fixing anything and bringing old furniture to new. As well, Bjarne also loved the outdoors and spending time talking to many friends in the neighbourhood. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Helen; son Bjorn; daughters, Tove and Mai; son-in-law Johnny; daughter-in-law Kate; his many grandchildren, Ayla, Thor, Athena, Halle, Daniel and Spencer; great-grandchild Dakota; as well, he will be sadly missed by his brothers, their wives and families in Norway; and numerous relatives and friends. Bjarne was predeceased by his daughter Cynthia (1987). Bjarne's funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 2 at 3:00 p.m. in Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Ave. at Mount Royal Road. • My wonderful memories of Bjarne and family have stayed with me for years. They were so hospitable and favourite supper was pancake day or Norwegian Crepe day. Miss you all and think of you often.
