WILLIAM KAYE 1921 - 2005 On Wednesday, July 27, 2005, William Kaye, peacefully passed away at the Deer Lodge Centre. Bill is survived by his wife, Beatrice of 58 years; his six children and their families, Alan (Pat), Dianne (Chris), Carol (Ralph), Elaine (Don), Linda (Tom) and Bill (Patti and children, Jeff, Kristin and Anthony); grandchildren, Brian, Mark (Leanne), David (Heather), Joshua, Scott, Sam, Christina, Aaron, Paul and Eric; and great-granddaughter Zoe. Bill was predeceased by his parents; and his daughter-in-law Lori. Bill was born in Glasgow, Scotland and immigrated with his parents to Canada at the age of four. He was raised in Moose Jaw, SK. In 1939, he joined the Air Force and served five years overseas during the Second World War. It was with great pride and pleasure that Bill served as a member of the 402 Squadron during the war and for many years after in the Reserves. His love of aviation included his involvement in the Western Canadian Aviation Museum for many years. Upon returning from the war, Bill married Beatrice and they began to raise their family. Bill joined Cowin Steel in 1946 and retired from there 40 years later. His many friends and associates through those years were very dear to him. In 1953, Bill and his wife started to create a summer home for their family - Falcon Lake has been a big part of family life ever since. The memories created at Falcon are precious to every family member. Along with family, work and the lake, Bill's other passion was hockey. From coaching his son, Bill, at Bourkevale Community Club to serving as President of the St. James Canadians Junior A Hockey Club - Bill loved all aspects of the game of hockey and made many wonderful friends through his involvement. After retirement, Bill and Bea travelled extensively to many parts of the world and spent many winters in Florida. Family and friends often visited them in Florida. They had a very good life together. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Tuesday, August 2 at 1:00 p.m. in the Spiritual Centre in the Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB. Friends are invited to a reception following the service at Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts, 2300 Ness Ave., 3rd Floor at 2:30 p.m. Our family wishes to thank the staff of the Deer Lodge Centre (T4) for the care given during the past year and a half. We also thank the staff of the Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts, Homecare and VON for their kindness to Bill. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts, 2300 Ness Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 1A2 or to the Deer Lodge Centre Foundation, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 0K4, or to a charity of one's choice.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Bill Kaye was a good friend and mentor for me and many other members of "C" Crew of 402 Sqdn. His leadership, as I recall, started as a Sgt. and later as an Engineering Officer for me and many others of our crew. He was inspirational, a friend, leader and mentor for all of us. His friendship extended to invitations to Falcon Lake where we spend many memorable weekends. Betty, my wife, worked with Bill at Cowin Steel. They became good friends. I would like to celebrate his eventful and great life, rather than morn his passing.. - Posted by: Dennis G. Bailey (Friend) on: Jul 30, 2005
