EDMUND JOSEPH KENNEDY, M.D., SR. November 21, 1912 - July 22, 2005 Peacefully at the Victoria General Hospital, Ed left this world for a better place, to the great sadness of his only son Edmund Kennedy, M.D., FRCS(C), FACS, who resides in Destin, Florida, U.S.A. Ed Sr. was predeceased by his loving wife, Jarmila Ann Kennedy, who passed away November 11, 2004 at the St. Boniface General Hospital. Ed was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, where he graduated with a B.Sc., M.D. in 1939 at Charles University at the beginning of the Second World War. He joined the British Army with the rank of Major and because of his command of at least eight European languages, his expertise was greatly valued in the OSE (Office of Strategic Executive). From a base in Italy, he flew and parachuted behind enemy lines on many covert operations to join and fight with the partisans in Yugoslavia. Many of his missions were and remain classified to this day. After the war, he, Jarmila and Ed Jr., immigrated to Australia in 1950. He worked in a medical capacity in various positions including with the Royal Australian Flying Doctor Service and at a whaling station at Point Cloates, Western, Australia. In 1955, he took his family to Canada, whereby, he passed the LMCC exam and became licensed in Ontario and Manitoba. He practiced as the sole practitioner at San Antonio Gold Mines in Bissett, MB till 1964, when the mine closed down. This gave him a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed this to the end. Ed then moved to Winnipeg and took over the practice of John McKenty, M.D. at the Boyd Building, Portage Avenue, till his retirement in the late 80s. He worked mainly at the Grace General Hospital and had treated many patients and delivered many babies over the years. His surviving son Edmund Jr., graduated with an M.D. in 1976 at the University of Manitoba, did his residency in Otorhmolaryngology at the Health Sciences Centre and qualified for his FRCSC in 1981 and practiced in Texas and Australia until retirement in 2003. Ed will be greatly missed by his surviving son and closest friends for his great sense of humour and story telling abilities especially about his war experiences. In accordance with Ed's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Sadly he has departed, but will never be forgotten. WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
