LUCY PICKUP 1906 - 2005 On July 27, 2005, Lucy Pickup, aged 98 years, peacefully passed away at the Poseidon Care Centre. Lucy will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law Elaine and Ray Sasser of Orange Beach, Alabama; her four granddaughters and their husbands, Bonnie and Murray Gadd, Alison and Vince Pisano and Kathleen and Herb Kessler all of Manitoba and Karen and Jim Davis of Dallas, Texas; and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husbands, Warren Burns in 1945 and Arthur Pickup in 1984; as well as by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Barbara Burns; and by her granddaughter and husband, Heather and Fred Tscherch. Lucy was born in Russell, MB on October 8, 1906, the eldest of seven children born to Arthur and Annie McCarthy. She met the love of her life, Warren Burns in Melville, SK. They married in 1931 and moved to Winnipeg. After being widowed in 1945, Lucy supported her two young children by running a boarding house and working in her home as a seamstress. Augustine United Church was Lucy's second home, where she worked tirelessly on countless committees and made many lifelong friends. Lucy travelled throughout North America with Fehr-way Tours. Lucy will always be remembered for her devotion to her family, her great strength of spirit, her tremendous work ethic and her sense of humour. Lucy's family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Poseidon Care Centre for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Lucy's life will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 3 at Augustine United Church, 444 River Ave. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations in Lucy's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3L 0K6.
