WILLIAM (BILL) TAGGART Peacefully, on Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at his home, with his family by his side, William Taggart passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer at the age of 74 years. Remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife Mabel, of 46 years of marriage; daughter Sharon (Dale Madill) and their son, Evan; daughter Colleen (Alan Howelko) and their daughter May Lin; sister Reta Aird; brother John; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and lifelong friends. Bill was predeceased by his sister Margaret; mother Rachel and father William. Bill was born in Winnipeg on July 2, 1931 and lived here all his life. In his youth, he was very active in the Winnipeg Boys Choir as well as many church choirs. He held several jobs including working at the Hudson Bay Company, the Manitoba Hydro-Electric Board, and Dominion Bridge where he met Mabel. Bill started at the City of Winnipeg in 1960, as a property assessor and retired 30 years later, in July 1990, as the Clerical Coordinator of the Assessment Department. He and Mabel married on June 20, 1959. In 1967 they purchased their cottage at Boundary Park, Winnipeg Beach. Bill took great pride in the renovations made to the cottage, which included a completely remodeled interior and several additions. Mabel and he spent many summers there with their daughters when they were small and later with their families as well. Some of his most cherished memories involved times at the cottage such as taking long walks with the dog and his grandson, reading the paper on the patio, or eating out at Jane and Walters. Bill was very proud to have been a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, Northern Lights Prince Rupert (2003) and a 50 year member of the Scottish Rite (2004). He was a kind, caring and gentle man. Above all, he loved spending time with his family. We will all deeply miss you! A Celebration of Bill's Life will be held on Wednesday, August 3 at 1:30 p.m. in Ness Ave. Baptist Church, 2700 Ness Ave., with Pastor Robert Shepansky officiating. For those who wish, viewing will take place one hour prior to Bill's service. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Ave. Special thanks to all the palliative care nurses, doctors and home care workers for all their caring and support during this difficult time, words cannot express our gratitude. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or a charity of one's choice.
