ROSE MCMANUS (PAT) ANDERSON (TURNER) Sadly, we announce the peaceful passing of our Mother at the St. Boniface General Hospital on Saturday, July 30, 2005 at the age of 84, surrounded by her loving family. My name is Rose, but my friends call me Pat. Pat was born on July 29, 1921 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the much-loved only child of Charles and Rose (McManus) Bullock. At the age of two, she moved to Liverpool with her parents. When asked, this May, in a questionnaire at Riverview Hospital, to name a person who was her hero. She replied, My father. She had fond childhood memories of beach holidays, swimming lessons and long walks to the docks with her Dad on Sundays, after church. Having turned eighteen one month before war was declared in 1939, she joined the W.A.A.F. and served as a teleprinter operator at several locations in England. She left the service in 1945 with the rank of Flight Sergeant. Early in the war, she met a young Canadian Army Officer who was later captured at Dieppe. She corresponded with him while he was in Prison Camp and upon his release, Pat and Jim Turner were married, in Liverpool, in May of 1945. She arrived in Halifax in January of 1946 as a War Bride and travelled across Canada, by train, to her new home in Winnipeg. Pat and Jim worked together to build their dream home in St. James, which included a suite for her parents to live in when they moved to Canada from Scotland. After Jim's sudden death in November 1960, Pat went to work in the Registrar's Office of the University of Manitoba. In 1969, she married Donald Anderson and moved to Valdosta, Georgia. They retired to Lutz, Florida where Pat lived for thirty years. In July 2003, Pat came back to live in Winnipeg to be closer to her family. Throughout her life, she had the amazing ability to make and keep close friends. When asked on the Riverview questionnaire, What are you most proud of in your life? She replied, My family. Pat is survived by her daughters, Lynne Dunford (Barry) of Winnipeg, Heather Buggie (David) of Trenton, Ontario and son Ken Turner (Cathe) of Winnipeg. Nana will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Jocelyn Buggie (Mat), Aynsley Dunford (Steve), Michael Buggie (Patti), Colleen Dunford, Ian Turner, Jordan Turner; great-grandchildren, Bayleigh, Christopher, Bob and Alexander; her very dear friend in Florida, Joann Morris and cousins in Scotland. Pat believed in angels and she met many during her stay at the the Victoria Hospital, Riverview Health Center and St. Boniface Palliative Care Ward. The family wishes to thank each one of them for their professionalism and kindness. Also, the many friends who kept in touch and visited. We were truly blessed to have had you with us on this difficulty journey. The last question she answered on the Riverview Questionnaire was, How has your illness affected your family? Pat's reply was, It has brought us closer together. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends wish, donations can be made in Pat's name to The Job Yellowhead Memorial Education Fund, 1103 Moncton Ave. Winnipeg, MB, R2K 1Z4 or to a charity of your choice. One of Mom's pet peeves was that no one writes thank you cards anymore, so in her memory, please write to someone to acknowledge a kindness. At Mom's request, there will be no funeral. There will be a family service at a later date. Friends are invited to a Come and Go celebration of Pat's life on Friday, August 5, between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. in the Common Room of Silverview Estates, 2141 Pembina Hwy. (enter between Safeway and Winners). Voyage Funeral Home, 1531 Pembina Highway is in charge of arrangements.
