DAVID ARTHUR JOHNSTON December 8, 1924 - July 31, 2005 Dave passed away peacefully at the St. Boniface Hospital on Sunday, July 31, 2005, at the age of 80 years. He leaves to mourn his wife and best friend, Joan; his daughters, Ilene (Murray) Dowd, Lois (Pat) Johnson; stepsons, Jim (Vernette) McIntosh, Brian (Kim) McIntosh, and stepdaughter Marlene McIntosh; grandchildren, Russ, Erin and Allison Dowd, Angie, Pam and Trevor Johnson, Brenda, Tony, Jenna, Bryce, Cody and Jesse McIntosh, Hayden and Durham McIntosh-Campbell and Tyler and Mackenzie Reid. Dave is also survived by his brother Bill (Margie) Johnston; sisters, Ida (Bob) McIntosh, Shirley (Delbert) Snider; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Ruth (Kennedy); his parents, John and Verna Johnston; grandson Stephen Dowd; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Walt Gould. Dave was employed for 38 years with Manitoba Pool as a grain buyer, retiring in 1988. He and Ruth raised their two daughters at Grasyville where he was an active member of the community. After the loss of Ruth he moved forward to begin the second part of his life. Dave and Joan were married in 1987 and began their new life in Carman. They spent 18 wonderful years together creating many fond memories with family and friends. Dave was a devoted husband, father and grandpa who enjoyed camping, curling, square dancing, and golfing. He loved listening to old time music on the radio on Saturday nights. He dedicated many hours to his church and community. The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care Dave received at Carman and St. Boniface Hospitals. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the Carman United Church, with Rev. Catherine Waldie officiating. A private family interment will take place prior to the service at the Greenwood Cemetery, Carman. Memorial donations may be made to the Carman United Church Building Fund, Box 1177, Carman, MB R0G 0J0, or to the St. Boniface Hospital Research Centre, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 9Z9.
