RUTH ELIZABETH JEAN LOUTIT
Date of Passing: Jul 24, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH ELIZABETH JEAN LOUTIT Ruth passed away at the Health Sciences Centre on Sunday, July 24, 2005. The daughter of Peter Robert Loutit and Margaretta Grant Reekie, she will be lovingly remembered by surviving sisters, Isobel of Winnipeg, Patricia Crookes of Edmonton and Marvel (Ernest) Sadler of Calgary and nieces and nephews across the country. She was predeceased by brother John (Evelyn) of Ottawa, brother-in-law Fred Crookes of Edmonton, sister Roberta (Milton) of Washington, DC and in March of this year, her dear sister, friend and companion of many years Anne Margeurite. Ruth experienced varied careers in her many active years. She excelled as a pianist and accompanist. During war time she was a purchasing agent for a tugboat builder in Owen Sound, ON. She moved to Washington, DC and became the private secretary for a well known influential lawyer there, returning home in 1951. In Winnipeg she worked in the world of law. The United Nations Association was a source of delight, and for her involvement she was given a Global Citizenship Award in 1995. Her eye on the world led to journeys on study tours with the CIIA and their focus on global concerns was a keen interest for Ruth. These tours provided much information and many pictures which she presented on her television program over a span of 20 years. In an upcoming book, her efforts concerning this organization are applauded. Ruth had been home bound more recently and though her world became smaller, she never lost her interest in worldwide concerns. Sincere and deep thanks to the home care workers who cared for her so lovingly. To the Health Sciences Centre care givers, we also express thanks for excellent care during Ruth's hospitalization. The memorial service, led by Dr. Byron Elsey, will be at Broadway First Baptist Church on Saturday, August 6 at 2:00 p.m., 790 Honeyman Ave., Winnipeg. In Ruth's memory, friends may wish to donate to a charity of their choice. Interment will take place in Little Britain Cemetery where Ruth, Anne and Roberta will take their place beside their parents. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 Broadway, 783-7211
